Moon-Themed Baby Shower
I love you to the moon and back - the phrase that inspired the concept for a moon-themed baby shower. I was beyond honored to throw an epic baby shower for my beautiful sister, Kasey. And now, I get to share all the details, including all the high-end DIY projects.
A little backstory: she and her husband Kyle got married in 2020, and as was the case for many people, their wedding plans shifted quite a bit due to the pandemic. While we were able to celebrate the actual wedding in an intimate 14-person Micro Wedding, all of the pre-wedding festivities had to be canceled. So we never got to throw a bridal shower or a bachelorette! This baby shower was going to be the ultimate makeup.
My mom and I hosted the event together, with her handling the food and drinks, and me taking point for the decor and games. As with any project, I like to start with a moodboard to get the colors and aesthetic pulled together.
We sent out invitations via Paperless Post and prepared for a 40-person shower. Friends and family were excited to show UP to celebrate Baby Smith. We opted for a gender-neutral shower, as the parents-to-be weren’t finding out the gender until the birth.
The two requests Kasey made were to have name tags and games. Otherwise, she was totally in the dark for every other detail, and it was a really special moment to witness her walking into the shower and seeing everything set up. The whole family pitched in, including my awesome sister-in-law, Fran, who made the cake from scratch, handmade paper for the name tags, and just generally was my right-hand-woman for all decor setup tasks. I love being a part of such a talented family!
Any good party starts with a good playlist - I made one on Spotify filled with baby-related bops.

DECOR
The balloon arch was a kit from Etsy. I highly recommend an automatic balloon pump to inflate all 200+ balloons in a timely manner! The copper arch was from Kasey and Kyle’s wedding.
The flowers and greenery were sourced from Trader Joe’s and filled in mismatched glass vases for a whimsical look.
Handmade cake by Fran. Cake topper made from cardboard + gold foil leaf.
Floating Roses Installation made with fishing line, a darning needle, and faux white roses.
Hot Air Balloon baskets made with paper lanterns, wood dowels, small wicker baskets and custom bunting. Name tags made with handmade watercolor paper + gold painted wood moons.
Crescent moon planters found at a local nursery were the perfect prizes for the winners of the shower games.
FOOD & DRINKS
Homemade pasta salad, carrot salad, and chicken salad croissants.
Tomato-basil-mozzarella skewers.
Fruit salad in a watermelon “baby carriage”.
Custom cookies made by my cousin at The Cookie Thief Bakery (again - my family is so talented!).
Custom lunar libation punch - just add champagne and a “moon” rock stirrer.
ALL THE LOVE FOR BABY SMITH
It is such a privilege being sisters with this wonderful person. Kasey - I love you to the moon and back! As I write this today, I’m pleased to share that Kasey has given birth to a baby GIRL named Indigo! My heart expands with more love than I thought possible when I’m with my niece. I love being an auntie!
