Hi!

Welcome to DIY Darling! I'm a twenty-something figuring out how to design my dream life on a dime. Let's take this journey together!

The Best Caramel Apples

The Best Caramel Apples

My lovely co-workers host a Friendsgiving each year. Everyone brings a side to share and we drink Bloody Marys (...and/or wine...and/or beer), play Cards Against Humanity and eat until we are physically uncomfortable. This year's Friendsgiving was legitimately called 'Gobble Til You Wobble' and it did not disappoint! I made Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and these delicious Caramel Apples.

Let me ask you a question - is there any better combo than caramel and a crisp apple? Perhaps add a little sea salt, or chocolate on there, and you've got a bonafide, autumn treat! Slice and share with your friends at Friendsgiving and everyone will most certainly be giving thanks.

I scavenged around outside for sturdy sticks to use in place of wooden dowels. Rinse off sticks before putting them in the apples.

Yes, I made my first GIF. Yes, it is the most basic thing on the Internet. Dip those apples, baby!

HOW TO DIY

Ingredients:

Apples

2 11 oz. bags of caramels

3 Tbls. heavy whipping cream

Sticks

Toppings (I used sea salt, chocolate chips, and crushed walnuts)

Directions:

1. Wash your apples and dry thoroughly. If there is any water left on them, the caramel will slip right off. Stab the sticks into the tops of the apples until secure. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and set apples on top.

2. Using a medium sized sauce pan, melt the caramels on medium-low heat. Stir in the heavy whipping cream. Once the caramel is melted, turn down the heat to low.

3. Swirl apples in caramel until coated. Let the excess caramel drip off back into the pan. Either roll the apples in desired toppings, or press on using your fingers. Let apples dry on parchment paper until your finished with all apples, then refrigerate until ready to serve. Slice up and enjoy!
